Share My Air
"Shanti’s debut CD is a breath of fresh musical air. Her performances are compelling, as is her songwriting, and the band is great. The combined effect amounts to more than mere auditory enjoyment, however. Like her namesake, Shanti brings a sense of peace to those who will listen.” Peter Erskine |
Shanti
is a mixed Japanese/American singer/songwriter, active in the Japanese
music industry since the age of 15. As a singer and/or writer she has
performed 100's of jingles & her voice is also known worldwide by
fans of Kanno Yoko, a well known composer in the Japanese animation
scene. She has been performing along with many well known Japanese artists,
and is active in the "live" circuit. For more details see
the works page. |
"Share My Air" is an even more exotic mix of musical talent, entirely recorded in Paris, except for a few contributions from friends in Japan. Shanti has been visiting France since the age of eight, so in addition to the music, all the photography and graphic design is all made-in-France. It is not just the artist who defines the musicality of an album; it is also the artistry of the performing musicians. In this case, the 100% accoustic recording sessions at the vintage Studios Ferber in Paris speak for themselves. Each member is an artist in his own right.(links below) Two brothers, Thierry Fanfant on bass and Jean-Philipe Fanfant on drums, contribute their groove to the "latin" color that appears now and then, as they are from Guadaloupe. They have worked together for a long time with Mario Canonge; accoustic piano, Fender Rhodes & Wurlitzer, and he is from Martinique. Complimenting them on guitar is long-time mutual friend, Jean-Michel Kajdan, veteran studio & live guitarist/comoposer/producer. For one song, the immensely talented Jean-Philipe Rykiel, on piano, records "live" with Shanti for the only "cover" on the album, Joni Mitchel's "A Case Of You." The international "flavor" is further enhanced by the contributions of Tatsuya Nishiwaki, a well respected multi-instrumentalist in Japan, playing chromatic harmonica on "Summer Sun" & piano on "As God Loves You." Japanese percussionist Ipiqui Takemoto also provides his mixed-percussive touches on "As God Loves You." Brazilian Percussion Master, Paul Mindy, puts his rhythmical color on "Wake Up To The Sun" & Bassist Thierry Fanfant does background vocals on "Let's Live In The Light" as well as percussion on a few other tracks. The recording Engineer, Christophe Marais has credits that include working on jingles,film-sound-tracks and has also worked with Charles Aznavour, Benabar, Olivia Ruiz, Claude Nougaro, Johnny Hallyday etc. More info on who did what is found via the link below left. |
